How do I spool line on a low-profile baitcast fishing reel?

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

ok, i bought a Abu Garcia BlackMAX fishing combo and the reel comes with no line attached to it. I cant seem to find a way to tie the line so when i reel, the string will come through the reel. Any links will be good.

Just like the answerer above said, but also put your new spool of line in a bucket of water as you reel the new line onto your reel. This helps to keep the line from twisting and lets it lay nicely on the reel. This is especially important on baitcaster types as you probably know how easily they can
"birdnest" on you.

what type of bass fishing lure do you like the best and which one works the best?

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

i want to buy bass lures becausse i dont want to keep spending my money on bait everytime i go fishing. what bass lures work the best? ive use spinner bait and plastic worm but i dont seem to catch anything. what type of lures work the best for bass or pike? and if you have a picture of the lure then that would be great cuz i want to see what im trying to buy at the store.

Topwater lures have some good results. Diving crank plugs also work well. Topwater lures and rubber baits work best in shallow water in morning and evening, while divers and spinners work best in afternoon. So, you may have the right stuff, but bad presentation and time of use can prevent you from getting results. Also, old rubber worms smell artificial and unappealing, so make sure your rubber baits have scent on them. So my favorite is whatever works that day, but I really like topwater lures and rubber baits, so my best fishing is in the morning.

Sorry, no pics, but anyone in the store should know what you are talking about. I would recommend actually shopping in a sporting goods store, because their employees should know what they are talking about (Beware, they have proven this theory incorrect before).

Good luck!

How do I pick the right Fishing Rod and Reel?

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

I want to get back into fishing. Haven't done it since I was a kid in Idaho.(And miss it dearly, I was pretty good at it.) Now living in Nevada. I know some spots in my area that have bass and trout. And I what to go back to Idaho and fish the Snake River for Catfish.
How long of a fishing rod do I need?
What kind of fishing reel?
What kind of fishing tackle do I need?
Any comments and/or tips about the subject would be a huge help
Thanks

You would need two very different set ups for the two types of fishing you described. For the Catfish in the Snake River you will need a much heavier rig. It also depends on how much money you would like to spend as it varies widely. Check into Bass Pro Shop or Caballa's or Gander Mountain for gear to set up for your needs.

i have an old fishing reel and i want to know some info about it?

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

it is pretty old looking and it says J.C.higgens model,
311. 3172
thx people

It looks like it's going for $12.99 on eBay and might look nice on a wall, but I doubt I would fish with it.

I tried Google, but didn't find much on how to use it, or instructions.

Another J.C. Higgins model was going for 4 bucks, while I thought one was going for $99…Hmmm?

Apparently it was a Sears brand/ line of outdoor gear, including firearms.

What kind of lure do you prefer for Bass Fishing?

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Topwater?
Shallow or Deep Divers?
Hardbaits?
Softbaits?
Weedless?

I'm looking to create an ultimate bass fishing lure, so I'm looking into the most used lure types to create one to those characteristics listed above.

Thanks!

I like spinnerbaits and crankbaits.

By the way, medium running crankbaits are in the 6-8 or 10 foot range, not 10-15…those would be deep running.
