Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is a method of catching fish with lines and hooks or spears through an opening in the ice, normally created by hand, or drill. Ice anglers protected by skins or thermal clothing, will sit by a hole in the ice for hours waiting for a bite, some even construct a heated cabin on the ice, with full living amenities.
As you would expect when fishing in such extreme conditions the equipment and fishing tackle used is very specialised. Initially before you fish you will need:
An ice saw or chisel to cut a hole in the ice.
A skimmer to remove new ice as it forms and clear slush.
During extreme cold ice anglers will have a heater. Not just to keep the angler warm but to stop the hole from freezing over again.

The are three main forms of fishing. Light fishing rod with small, colored lures or baited jigs. Tip-ups, using a line attached to a flag that "tips up" when struck. Spear fishing through a large hole cut in the ice using fish decoys. Many of the tools needed and the tackle required you will find below.
